|Lee as Tura/Varla: scary-sexy|
The evening of Monday, February 7, I hosted an "emergency" Forbidden Thrills movie nite at Forbidden Island Tiki Lounge in Alameda, featuring a torrid torrent of tropical tributes to my late friend, TURA SATANA, who passed away this past Friday, February 4. Our master mixologist/manager Suzanne Long created a special memorial cocktail, "Varla's Blood": strong, sensuous and spicy like its namesake (Tura's character in Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!), and our sexy server Lee Williams went all-out with an incredibly accurate Varla wig and costume, creating an eerily similar, voluptuous visage. Both these buxom beauties did Tura's memory some juicy justice. A first time FI patron, Pam Moore, came from San Leandro (Russ Meyer's birthplace!) and brought her Tura shrine with her, adding the perfect touch to the film festivities. Here's to Tura, cheers and aloha, pussycat. Read my Examiner article about Tura.

My stepmom Anne Helm is "the Princess" in Bert. Gordons's fun, freak-filled fantasy THE MAGIC SWORD (1962) co-starring our friend Gary Lockwood, plus! Mario Bava's moody, macabre muscleman masterpiece HERCULES IN THE HAUNTED WORLD (1961), starring Reg Park and Christopher Lee.
